Willie

Willie was found abandoned on a farmer's lawn. Someone said they saw him at 5:30 in the morning being taken off a trailer and dumped. He was quite lame and might not have been allowed to go through the auction, which might explain why he was dumped. It is illegal to abandon horses in Ontario which would explain why it was done in the early morning hours. Thankfully, a local private horse rescue, Meaford Horse Sanctuary, was contacted and they took him in.

Willie was a senior horse suffering with severe arthritis and respiratory issues. We are thankful he had a soft landing with people who cared enough about him to make sure he was seen by a vet and given what he needed most. Willie was lovingly given the Last Act of Kindness and we are pleased to have supported them with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.

We understand that it can be very difficult to face the hard decision of laying one's horse to rest, but abandonment or shipping to auction are not the answer. What horses need most is to be cared for him the home they know and given a peaceful, dignified ending when the time comes. If you or someone you know needs financial assistance for humanely euthanizing their horse, please apply for our grant.
