Amazing love and devotion
This stunning boy was born on a PMU farm in Manitoba. Had a little 10 year old girl not purchased him he would likely have gone to slaughter as a weanling. Think about that? A baby, slaughtered. It was common then.
The little girl used money she had gotten for Christmas from her grandparents. She didn't even tell her mom, who only found out weeks later when her aunt came over and started asking her about her new horse.
The two of them became very bonded and grew up together. She trained him herself and he became her cattle horse at her grandmother's farm.
"We never entered any shows or anything, he was just my best friend for 25 years. He was in amazing shape and great health. He was extremely gentle and brought so much happiness to everyone who met him. He was a great teacher for my children and literally my best friend. The day he died is the darkest day of my life. I fought hard to save him but in the end I had to let go."
Sadly he had suddenly colicked. He had shown no signs of pain or discomfort the day before. Hoping it wasn't anything serious, she rushed him to the vet and opted for surgery, despite the high cost. What they found was devastating news. About a third of his small intestines were clinically dead and had started leaking toxins into his body. There was no other option than to give him the Last Act of Kindness. Thanks to our donors we were able to provide her with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
