Ash

Ash was rescued at auction three years ago by the good people at Blackbird Ranch Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation. Auction number 122, from auction September 28, 2024, listed as “21 year old mare”. That was the extent of her write up.

Almost right away they noticed something was a little off with Ash. Her vet visit confirmed their concerns. She had limited sight, needed dental work and probably had PPID. In addition she was afraid of anything and everything, some days that even included the wind.

Her rescuers suspected that someone had not been kind to Ash as she was petrified of people. They worked at gaining her trust and restoring her health. Ash had multiple teeth issues, from fractures to abscesses, and each time she would regress into her fear. But they were devoted to her care and Ash lived happily with her horse friends.

This spring was especially hard on her. Constant rain, flooding and mud and then the flies, Ash was declining. They decided to let her go on a good day with her pasture mate Tigger. We are so grateful for all they did for her. Thanks to our donors we were able to provide them with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
