Sweet baby Arlo you deserved better, and so did your mom

This is a hard one. Arlo's mom, Whisper, was brought to 5 Freedoms Ranch and Rescue by authorities due to severe neglect. She was starved and pregnant. Only four weeks later she gave birth to Arlo and soon he began showing signs of illness. The vet came and he was started on a course of treatments. One concern was his legs. They were stocked up. With diligent care they were hopeful they would get better. They did, and he did, for a while. There was real hope that he would be ok.

Then things took a shocking turn for the worse. One of his hooves completely separated and came off and his little coffin bone broke away. There was no more hope of recovering and sweet baby Arlo was given the Last Act of Kindness. He was only five weeks old.

It is incredibly difficult to comprehend animal abuse and neglect. We can't comment on the case of his mother, Whisper, as it is with the authorities. Sometimes it is a situation involving severe mental health. We can only speculate. All we know is Arlo suffered and his life was cut short due to the neglect his mother experienced. We are simply grateful that Arlo was born in a place of safety and all he ever knew was love. We are grateful to our donors who made it possible for us to provide them with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.

Whisper remains at 5 Freedoms and is doing well. She likely also experienced abuse as she is very fearful. But they are working on building her trust and she has found a best friend in Rudy.
