In her short 12 or so years, this beautiful, kind, gentle mare experienced terrible neglect. Based on what we know about where she came from, she was likely used as a work horse. When she became lame due to laminitis, instead of giving her the care she needed, she was neglected, suffered tremendously, and was eventually sold to a kill buyer. Thankfully she was saved by 5 Freedom's Ranch Rescue and Rehab. But despite months of care and rehab, the damage to her hooves was too severe. She was given the Last Act of Kindness and was freed from her painful body.
Laminitis is treatable, especially when it is caught early and especially in an otherwise young healthy horse. There is no reason for it to become a death sentence. We are very saddened that her life was cut short due to neglect. She was known to be very loving, loved treats and attention, and loved to be doted on. She would have been an amazing horse for the right person. She just needed someone to see her as someone, not something.
We are grateful to 5 Freedoms Ranch Rescue and Rehab for all they did for her. We were pleased to be able to support them with our humane euthanasia grant.
