This beautiful and much loved percheron mare developed a painful feed impaction that made its way into her nasal cavity. Surgery was going to cost up to $10,000 and at 25 years old with possible underlying health issues there was no way of knowing how she would manage. Her owner had devotedly cared for her and had made many sacrifices to do so but in the end she decided the Last Act of Kindness was the right decision. Horse Aid Canada is grateful she reached out and applied for our Humane Euthanasia grant. This mare had previously been an Amish working horse and broodmare and had found herself at auction. This time her owner loved her enough to do right by her instead of walking away. Had she ended up at auction again she would have been at high risk of being purchased by a kill buyer.
