Blackbird Ranch Equine Rescue and Rehab rescued Ranger from auction 7 years ago when he was just a yearling. His owner had originally listed him for sale on Kijiji for $50 but since no one bought him, his owner took him to auction.
Ranger was beyond terrified, trembling when his rescuers went into his pen. Not only did he have string halt but he also had a catastrophic injury to one his rear fetlocks leaving it much larger than the other one.
Over the years he let his rescuers care for him, give him a blanket and snacks. But he always preferred to hide behind the other horses. He never overcame his fear of humans.
Recently they noticed the he had been laying down a lot and limping. It was time to relieve him for his pain . He was lovingly given the Last Act of Kindness. He is also now free of fear.
Rescue is not easy, especially when taking on such a young damaged horse, both physically and mentally. We are so grateful to Blackbird Ranch Equine Rescue for being there for Ranger in his greatest time of need and for giving him best life he could have had. It meant so much to us to be able to provide them with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
Rest easy Ranger, you were so loved. ❤️
