London

While we don't know London's full story, we can well imagine it. Her rescuers could tell she had been well handled and likely was very safe to ride. She was sweet and gentle natured, always ready for affection. Was she a once loved horse who was given away "free to a good home", her owners thinking they had found the perfect family to spend the rest of her days with? It isn't just possible, there is a good chance, as it is not uncommon for horses like London to end up at auction once they are old and can no longer be ridden.

London was saved from riding the slaughter truck from Dawson Creek, BC to Fort Mcleod, AB by 5 Freedoms Ranch Rescue. When she arrived at the sanctuary, she was so thin she had a body score of 2. It was the middle of winter and she was so cold she was shivering. Thankfully she happily accepted a blanket, food and loving care. She regained her weight and lived the rest of her days watching over Ivy, a young filly who arrived with London. When the time came that her arthritis could no longer be managed, London was given the Last Act of Kindness. We were so pleased to have been able to support 5 Freedoms with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.

Our grants mean so much to horse rescue organizations. It eases the financial strain of veterinary expenses, saving their precious funds for other needs like hay. When you donate to Horse Aid Canada you are also supporting horse rescue organizations across the country.
