Sweet Kaloni was surrendered to Tiny Tales Pony Rescue Society along with three others. Sadly they were all in very poor condition and had not received the care they needed in a long time. The owner became unwell which can unfortunately often lead to neglect. Their family was tasked with finding them new homes. Thankfully Tiny Tales Pony Rescue was able to take them in.
Kaloni needed extensive care. She had the telltale sign of PPID and was started on the recommended medication, but even the smallest dose would cause her to colic. When her dental exam was done it was discovered she had a molar growing out the roof of her mouth. The vet determined that she would be comfortable with a floating. A few months later an abscess blew under her jaw. She had a low grade long term infection which required major dental surgery. Despite months of oral antibiotics, she ultimately needed additional IV treatments. Sadly, she began to decline and her organs had started to fail. Kaloni's body could no longer fight. She was weakened likely due to the long term effects of untreated PPID, infections and poor nutrition. The only option was to give her the Last Act of Kindness.
We are very grateful to Tiny Tales Pony Rescue for taking in Kaloni and giving her the best chance at recovery. We are so pleased they reached out for assistance with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
