Jaxson

We are so grateful for the brave individuals who step up for horses in need. Sometimes that is horse rescue organizations, sometimes it is private individuals, and sometimes it is both.

As a yearling, Jaxson was rescued at auction by an individual who could see he had problems with his knees and she did not want to see him go to slaughter. He was diagnosed with physitis, a condition that eventually became more painful than medication could manage. The kindest thing was to spare him from another harsh Alberta winter.

He had 5 wonderful years with his herd before joining The Parsons Animal Rescue Foundation last fall. Jaxson enjoyed his remaining time in a loving foster home. He was given the Last Act of Kindness with a belly full of apples and surrounded by those who loved him. He was only 6 years old.

Despite his short life, Jaxson had what every horse wants ... safety and companionship in a herd, good care and people who loved him. It is important to focus on all those good things. Life ends, but how we live, and for horses too, is what matters. Thank you to Jaxson's original rescuer, to the Parsons Animal Rescue Foundation and to his foster home. You all did right by him.

We were pleased to support the Parsons Animal Rescue Foundation with our Humane Euthanasia Grant. Fall is a time when many horse owners are facing tough decisions about the horses that likely won't make it through winter.
