Honey

Honey's story is a hard one to tell because it is heartbreaking to imagine what the first part of her life must have been like. A hinny, she was born with deformities to her hind legs. When she was abandoned at auction her hooves were in horrible condition and she likely had been drugged to mask the pain, sadly something that is often done to hide an animal's true condition. She was so afraid of sticks and men, she likely endured horrible abuse.

Thankfully she was saved at the auction and spent the rest of her life at 5 Freedoms Ranch Rescue. With patience and loving care, she overcame her fear and enjoyed 6 wonderful years with her equine friends. Honey loved to bask in the sun and apples were her favourite treat. She even learned to stand quietly as the farrier trimmed her deformed hooves.

Honey's story is one of bravery, courage and the healing power of love. We are so grateful to 5 Freedoms for everything they did for her. When the deformities to her hooves had turned her feet so inward that she could no longer walk, she was given the Last Act of Kindness. We were pleased to have provided them with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.

Our grants mean so much to horse rescue organizations. It eases the financial strain of veterinary expenses, saving their precious funds for other needs like hay. When you donate to Horse Aid Canada you are also supporting horse rescue organizations across the country.
