Chancey was at an auction in Arkansas where he was purchased by a kill buyer who then took him to a kill pen in Tennessee. The horrors that await horses in the slaughter pipeline are beyond what most of us can imagine. Thankfully he was rescued, along with his friend Ranchy, and brought to Canada where they enjoyed a good life together. Eventually, time caught up with Chancey, as it does with all of us. The vet estimated he was more than 30 years of age. With winter approaching, rather than risk his wellbeing he was lovingly given the Last Act of Kindness. We were so pleased to have been able to support his rescuer with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
Knowledge is a powerful thing and once you know something you can't not know it. Combine that with a compassionate heart and you have the special mix that makes someone a rescuer. His rescuer continues to help horses and she credits Chancey for that. Such a beautiful way to honour him.
