Bucky
Bucky was rescued from the slaughter pipeline in December 2024 when he was only 6 months old. It is shocking that a baby could ever be at risk of slaughter but it happens! Thankfully he was taken in by 5 Freedoms Ranch and Rescue.
When he arrived he was thin, covered in lice and wild as they come. He also had a very large scrotum hernia, which is likely why he was unwanted. Their vet wanted to wait until he was two years old before undergoing surgery for the hernia. It is so important to have hernias surgically repaired as they pose a tremendous risk for colic. And if the hernia were to ever get caught on something and tore, it would expose the intestines and introduce infection, becoming life threatening very quickly.
For the next 18 months while they waited for Bucky to be ready, 5 Freedoms worked on gaining his trust and introducing him to gentle handling. Recently he underwent the surgery, which was successful, and he was gelded at the same time. We are so thankful we could provide them with our Gelding Grant, setting him up for a better life.
