This sweet little guy was surrendered to Tiny Tales Pony Rescue Society last month. Unfortunately the owner did not make his health issues known. It is so sad when people withhold critical information because it almost always means the horse suffers needlessly. That was true in Bucky's case. Once he was examined by a vet it was only then shared that he had been kicked by another horse causing damage to his hip. The cost of surgery to repair it was in the thousands but even if the owner or Tiny Tales had the funds, the vet advised that it may not even be the most humane solution. Instead, Bucky was given the Last Act of Kindness to ease his suffering.
We understand that horse rescues are often at capacity and desperate horse owners may feel they have nowhere to turn for help. But withholding vital information about a horse and their condition doesn't mean the rescue won't help. In fact, it better prepares them for what they will be facing.
We are grateful Bucky wasn't sent to auction where even minis are sold for slaughter. We are so grateful Tiny Tales took him in and did right by him. We are very pleased we could support them with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
If you or someone you know has an equine in need of the Last Act of Kindness, reach out for help. Horses rescues are often at capacity but they will also often do what they can. Our Humane Euthanasia Grant is available to all equine owners across Canada.
Our grants mean so much to horse rescue organizations. It eases the financial strain of veterinary expenses, saving their precious funds for other needs like hay.
