Belle

Beautiful Belle was rescued by the The Little Red Barn Sanctuary when they saw that she was listed on kijiji for only $150. At that price, and especially because she is a draft horse, they were concerned she would be flipped and sold to a kill buyer. They knew she deserved better than that and brought her home to their place of refuge.

Belle had given the first 24 years of her life as a working horse for the Amish and then sold to be used for wagon rides. But her body was too used up and when she wasn't able to work anymore she was listed on kijiji. Belle was actually quite unwell and despite excellent care it was clear she was succumbing to cancer. She was only with her rescuers for a brief few months but in that time she knew love. We are so grateful that she didn't end up in the slaughter pipeline and was given the Last Act of Kindness in her greatest time of need. We were so pleased to have provided the Little Red Barn Sanctuary with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
