Abbigale

In the fall of 2024, this beautiful senior found herself in the hands of someone who tried to sell her for slaughter. Thankfully, instead she was rescued by Hopeful Hooves Equine Rescue.  They named her Abbigale.

Years as a wild pony race pony and then as a bucking pony left her with deep trauma. Abbigale was terrified of people and would react in fear either by kicking, biting or bolting. She also had a lot of medical needs. Her teeth were in horrible condition, with some needing to be extracted, and she later had an abscess blowing out of her face. On top of it all they soon learned she was pregnant It was a shock to everyone  because she was estimated to be in her late 20's. No horse should ever be bred at that age.

Despite all she had been through, Abbigale adjusted to her life in her little pony herd. In June 2025 she gave birth a healthy colt. She was the best momma and adopted grandma to every baby born at the rescue.

Recently Abbigale was losing interest in her feed and when she did try to eat it was a struggle. Despite special mashes and endless care, her body was in decline. It was time to set her free. Abbigale was lovingly given the Last Act of Kindness and we are grateful to have been able to support Hopeful Hooves Equine Rescue with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.

No horse should have to have suffered in all the ways Abbigale did. She should have only known kindness, love and safety. It warms our hearts that at least she knew that for the last part of her life.
