A very lucky mare

This beauty was one lucky girl. When she was just a baby, both she and her dam had been purchased at auction and were going to be sent back when the owners were selling their property. Fortunately when the people who eventually bought the property came to see it, they decided to buy the horses too, saving them from the scary fate of ending up back at auction. She had a long life and spent it at the same place. Not many horses enjoy such a gift.

Circumstances changed and her owners had to make some difficult decisions due to finances. She was now 27 and had painful arthritis in her knee making getting around difficult, especially in the cold months. Her owners made the best decision they could as rehoming a senior horse often does not result in a good outcome for the horse. Instead she was lovingly given the Last Act of Kindness. This is what responsible horse ownership looks like. We were so pleased to have been able to support them with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
