A special senior

We are always moved by every horse's story but there is something special about a much loved senior that touches our hearts. This beautiful boy was already older when he joined his family, a single mom and three kids, in 2017. No doubt he filled a void for them as they provided for him in every way. Recently it became clear he wouldn't make it through another Canadian winter and the family, kids included, made the decision to give him the Last Act of Kindness. We were pleased to support them in their decision with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.

There are so many special things about his story but a really important one is the lessons the mom gave her children about responsible horse ownership. He was loved and valued as a member of the family and when his time came he was treated with care, dignity and respect. We want to give a special shout out to her, thank you for teaching our next generation of animal lovers that we don't abandon them when they get old.

Fall is a time when many horse owners are facing tough decisions about the horses that likely won't make it through winter.
