Every story is special but the ones about little girls and their horses .... there is just something extra special about those. š“š§ā¤ļø
This beautiful mare became part of a wonderful family so their daughters could have a horse of their own. Already a senior, she was a kind and loving mare, taking very good care of her little humans. Unable to be ridden due to navicular and arthritis, she became their pasture friend. The girls spent part of almost every day with her, loving her, brushing her and sometimes riding her bareback in the pasture.
One day she suddenly started to rapidly deteriorate. She completely stopped eating, became lethargic and depressed. Then she developed violent diarrhea and needed emergency care. Her family rushed her to the vet and and sadly it was determined that she had a cancer affecting her intestines causing colic, which would lead to sepsis and ultimately death. With her age and other underlying conditions, the only option was to give her the Last Act of Kindness.
It all happened so fast! Our thoughts are with the little girls who lost their best friend. Every horse deserves the kind of love that only a little girl can give. And every girl deserves the gift of such an incredible horse.
Parents often struggle financially to provide their children with the experiences so important to their development. When it comes to horses, there is often a lot of sacrifices to make it all happen. We were so pleased to have been able to provide the family with our Humane Euthanasia Grant. We know they greatly appreciated the support.
