A lifetime of devotion

Every grant application touches us deeply but this one was especially moving. A daughter reached out asking for help for her 79 year old father and his 36 year old horse. Besides being very senior, the horse had become unsteady on her feet and same with her father. It was a very unsafe situation for both of them and time to let her go. What was so incredible was he had this horse for the last 26 years. Amazing! Very few horses get to share most of their life with one person. It was clear the love he had for his horse and that he held onto her for as long as he could. As a senior on a fixed income it was a financial strain to provide for her and yet he did it anyway. Every horse should be so lucky.
We were so grateful to his daughter for reaching out to us to support her father and his horse with our Humane Euthanasia grant. No doubt this "good bye" will be life changing for him. I will think of his beloved horse watching over him and waiting for the day when they will be together again.
