Duke was rescued by 5 Freedoms Ranch Rescue at the Tofield auction in Alberta in the summer of 2000. He was standing in the corner of a pen, his head hung low, thin and clearly in pain. Once back at the rescue he was seen by a vet and started on medication for ulcers. With that and good food, Duke quickly became a happy healthy horse once again.
We are so grateful to 5 Freedoms for rescuing Duke. He was a kind, gentle soul who found his groove loving on the young baby horses. When he arrived he also had navicular but they were able to manage it with pain medication and special trims for quite awhile. When the time came that his pain was too much they lovingly gave him the Last Act of Kindness. We were so pleased to be able to support them with our Humane Euthanasia grant.
Our grants mean so much to horse rescue organizations. It eases the financial strain of veterinary expenses, saving their precious funds for other needs like hay.
