Reaching out for help with their horse

We were deeply moved by the story of this beautiful mare. She was a Thoroughbred, and as Hope was also a Thoroughbred, she touched a special spot deep in my heart.
She had 6 owners in her life and she was only 13. She was demonstrating a number of stress behaviours and causing herself injuries. She was blind in one eye and losing her vision in the other, but the most troubling was the pain she was in due to kissing spine. Her owners knew the best thing for her was the Last Act of Kindness but they were having financial difficulties and could not afford the cost of humane euthanasia. They did not want to send her to auction as they were very worried she would continue to be bounced around and eventually end up being sold for slaughter. Desperate for help they reached out to Bear Valley Rescue. Together we helped her owners cover the cost, protecting her from entering the slaughter pipeline.
We are so grateful to have the trust of horse rescue organizations like Bear Valley Rescue. We can do so much more for horses when we come together. Our Humane Euthanasia Grants help horse rescue organizations say "yes" to horses in need because they know they aren't doing it alone.
