This sweet girl was an ex-Amish plow horse. Worked until she could pull no more, she was taken to auction where she absolutely would have sold for meat had her rescuer not outbid the kill buyer. Instead she got to live out the last two years of her life peacefully in full retirement. She became a loving companion to a blind gelding.
Her years of hard work and minimal care left her rear right hock severely damaged. Despite pain medication and various therapeutic treatments, it was no longer possible to keep this sweet girl comfortable. She was given the Last Act of Kindness to ease her suffering. She was only 18 years old.
We are so grateful to people across Canada who open their hearts and homes to horses in need. Some people are able to help many horses at once and some help just one horse at a time. It all matters.
We want to thank her rescuer for all she did for her and our donors who make our grants possible. We were so pleased to have been able to support them with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
