Dominic was taken to auction in February 2020. No one wanted him because he was skin and bones and his hooves were overgrown, long and curly. He was also very afraid of humans. He clearly had been neglected for quite some time. Thankfully 5 Freedoms Ranch Rescue saved him and brought him home. There he was able to heal, body and soul.
Sadly, Dominic went into liver failure. He was immediately given intensive vet care. He spent a few days at the vet clinic and at first there were signs he would pull through. But an ultrasound revealed very bad news. He had fibroids all over his liver which likely formed when he had been starved as a youngster. The only thing that could be done for Dominic was to give him the Last Act of Kindness. He was only 8 years old. He will be greatly missed.
We are so grateful to 5 Freedoms for saving Dominic back in 2020. It is hard to imagine a starved, neglected 2 year old donkey being taken to auction but it happens. If it weren't for his rescuers no doubt he would have been slaughtered. We want to thank them for all they did for him. Thanks to our supporters we were able to provide them with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
