Abandoned, the boarding facility did right by her

Some stories are hard share because they weigh on our hearts in a different way. It is wonderful to see horses experience love in their lifetime. But it is then so hard to learn when they experience abandonment.

This beautiful girl was well into her 20s and experiencing pain in her hock. Xrays revealed there was no longer any meniscus, which acts as a cushion and stabilizer for the joint. The result is bone-on-bone contact, causing significant pain. She needed pain management and if that was no longer effective, she needed the Last Act of Kindness.

Sadly her owner's financial situation changed and she had stopped providing for her care and board. She hadn't even been to visit her in months. The good people at the boarding facility could no longer stand by and watch her suffer. Unable to cover her expenses themselves, they still stepped up. When their vet came to examine her it was clear that the only option was the Last Act of Kindness. We were pleased to be able to support them with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.

We share her story not to shame her owner. No doubt she was overwhelmed. Instead we share it to encourage people to reach out for help. If you or someone you know has a horse that need the Last Act of Kindness, please apply for our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
