A young woman's heart horse
In 2019, a young woman was looking to lease a horse for hunter/jumper riding. She came across an ad for a big, beautiful chestnut mare. When she went to meet her, the horse was nothing like what was shown in the photos. She was skin and bones and desperately in need of care. Thankfully she didn't turn away. She took her new horse home and poured her heart and soul into getting her healthy.
Over the years they shared so many adventures together, from jumping and western gaming to trail riding. Through it all, this beautiful mare became her heart horse. Almost seven years later, she could see her horse's body was starting to fail. She knew it was time and lovingly gave her the Last Act of Kindness.
"Letting her go peacefully was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but I know in my heart that it was the best decision for her. I’d rather let her go a day too early than a day too late. She gave me some of the best years of my life, and I will forever be grateful that our paths crossed. She will always have a piece of my heart."
We are always so grateful when horse owners do right by their horses. Every horse deserves a peaceful and painless ending. Thanks to our donors we were able to provide the owner with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.
