A lucky girl for sure!

When the owner of this beautiful girl stopped paying her board, a friend of the barn owner stepped in. Not wanting to see her being sent for slaughter, she paid the outstanding boarding fees and made this lucky girl her own. A lucky girl for sure!

At 25 years of age, this lovely mare had developed a series of health issues. PPID (aka Cushings) compromises the immune system, which also naturally weakens with age. A horse with PPID can develop chronic, recurrent infections that can become difficult to manage. Some are incredibly painful and don't respond to even aggressive treatment.

Her new owner was diligent with her care but one day she knew it was time to let her go of her painful, ailing body. She was given the Last Act of Kindness and thanks to our donors we were able to support her with our Humane Euthanasia Grant.

They were together for five years. Her owner shared this with us ....

"It was a very hard and sad decision I had to make because I loved her so much even though I had her only for a short while. I still miss her so much but it is slowly getting easier she will forever life on in my heart and my memories."

We have so much gratitude for people who step in when a horse is at risk of entering the slaughter pipeline. And when it becomes a beautiful story of love and devotion, our hearts are full.
